Let’s talk about “baking” the face. This makeup technique has been trending for quite a while now BUT it’s not something new,it’s been around for ages done by the Theatrical/Drag communities and I thought I’d give it a try and see what I think about it,I have been doing it for sometime now and I will share with you how I do this and what I like and don’t like about “baking”.
What do we use to bake the face?
So what we need is a finely milled setting powder.i use the Laura Mercier Brightening Powder for the same.Other options would be the controversial product MUFE HD powder(throwback to Angelina Jolie’s white powder incident)then you have Coty Airspun powder,Nars and Bobbi brown loose setting powder.A good drugstore option would be the “Nyx HD loose setting powder”.
Benefits of baking
So if you want to brighten and make your skin look smooth, flawless, pore free well this technique claims to do it all.Basically it’s going to make your foundation and concealer warm up with the powder and mesh it all together with your skin’s own natural heat.
How to bake the face?
•After I am done with the foundation,I conceal my under eyes( I use the Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer)
•so I start from the bridge of nose, making a triangle towards the temple so I’m angling it rather then I blend it in all in with a brush.
•After which i set it very lightly with some powder, then I use my damp beauty blender or i just spray some Mac fix plus on it and dip it into the Laura Mercier Brightening Powder generously and apply it underneath my eyes, and bridge of my nose then I let it “bake” for 5-10 minutes while i do my eyes or any other chore.
•I then take a fluffy brush with a little bit of powder and start sweeping it off my face lightly and there you have it,your face has been “Baked” 🙂
Cons of baking
•When you are in a rush you don’t really have the time to bake your face and wait for it to set for 10 minutes
•Sometimes if you use the wrong powder it may show up in Flash Photography
I do enjoy doing this but only when I have an event or a party to attend as it makes the skin look smooth.I don’t really think I would do this as often.Overall it’s a worth a try and you can figure If it works for you as well.
